“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.”
When words fail us, music speaks. Here at Our Lady, Mother of the Church, we believe that through music, we can express and share in a communal effort to praise and worship our Lord. Through different programs within our ministry, there are new and exciting ways for our parishioners to experience music in a worship setting. There is a place for everyone to join, and we encourage all interested parishioners to come to our rehearsals and find a place where they can share in our efforts to create a welcoming environment through music making as we all share in making joyful noise through our combined worship. For more information, please look through our programs listed below, or contact our Music Director. Shout joyfully to the Lord!
Meet Our Director
Josephine Stracek is a recent graduate of North Park University in Chicago, IL. Her degree in vocal performance emphasized the role of the opera voice, but throughout her college career, Josephine also pursued classes and training in worship, never forgetting her roots and beginnings as a youth cantor in her home church.
Josephine grew up in a small town in Minnesota where she was raised on a hobby farm with her two brothers. She spent many hours at the local church, cantoring for the school Masses on Fridays and the Saturday family Masses on the weekends. Many parishioners requested her to sing for special events such as funerals and weddings, and starting her freshman year of high school, Josephine began collaborating with the local Knights of Columbus for their yearly remembrance Mass, planning and leading the music with a volunteer choir.
When Josephine moved to Chicago, she continued her involvement in church music by taking courses at the school to better understand the planning and integration of music into a service. She also became involved at a local church as the soprano section leader, later taking on the role of the music director for the church’s contemporary choir. Upon graduation, Josephine began her call to ministry at Our Lady, Mother of the Church. Besides working to grow and build understanding of worship through music at the church, Josephine also attends Roosevelt University as she pursues her graduate degree in vocal performance.
To reach Josephine with any questions or comments, please feel free to stop by during her office hours or to contact her through email or phone. Shout joyfully to the Lord!

The OLMC Adult Choir is a group of talented individuals who felt the call to help in worship through the leading of the congregation in a choir setting. The choir rehearses once a week (Thursdays at 7:30pm) from September to June. The Adult Choir sings each weekend during one Mass, the Mass alternating each the week so as to have an opportunity to reach out to all parishioners. This year, the Adult Choir also has an opportunity to participate in OLMC’s Sunday Concert Series where they will perform in a Christmas Concert mid-December. For more information regarding the schedule, please check the Music Ministry calendar or contact our Music Director.
NEW to Our Lady, the Worship Band is an exciting opportunity to incorporate contemporary music into our weekly Mass. Rehearsals for Worship Band will be help two Wednesdays a month at 7:30pm, and the Worship Band will play the last Saturday of each month at the 5:00pm Mass. We encourage both instrumentalists and vocalists to join us for this exciting opportunity! Please email our Music Director for more information.
The OLMC Youth Choir is for students first grade through eighth grade. The Youth Choir meets to rehearse the first two Saturdays a month after RE classes have finished (12:00pm-12:45pm) September to May. The Youth Choir sings the first Sunday of every month at the 11:00am Family Mass. The choir also leads worship at the 5:00pm Mass on Christmas Eve and the 11:00am Mass on Easter Sunday. For more information, please see our Music Ministry schedule or contact our Music Director.
Our instrumentalists help us during special celebrations throughout the year. Christ the King, Christmas, Easter, and Corpus Christi are just some of the many opportunities for those who play instruments to join the Music Ministry in their worship. All instrumentalists are welcome to join the Music Ministry. Please contact our Music Director to find out how you can be a part of the music making for these occasions.
An important role in worship through music is the leader who inspires and supports the congregation throughout the service. Our cantors are specially trained individuals who have learned how to be this beacon of light throughout Masses. For anyone interested in becoming a cantor, there is special meetings and training each month. Anyone interested in becoming a cantor must first audition for a position. They will then be paired with a cantor who is already scheduled until they feel they are ready to begin leading worship on their own. Please contact our Music Director for an opportunity to discuss how you might fit into the role of a cantor for OLMC.
Hand Bell Choir
The OLMC Hand Bell Choir plays for the Christmas and Holy Thursday services. The rehearsals for this group are not weekly, but based on the level at which all participants are currently in their understanding of playing the bells. Usually, rehearsals are held Sundays after the 11:00am Mass twice monthly. To see when the next rehearsal is, or to find out more information, please contact our Music Director.
